In gas measurement technology, as a rule, the volume flow is first measured and then, using special computers, first converted into the standard volume and then, taking into account the specific gas quality, into energy. The energy unit is the trading and billing measure.
- Ultrasonic gas meter: A gas meter with many advantages. In addition to high measuring accuracy, RMG's ultrasonic gas meters offer extremely high reliability for use in custody transfer and non-custody transfer gas metering applications. The proven 6-path technology measures asymmetries and swirl in addition to the gas volume flow. The unique online fine-tuning via echo measurement reduces possible measurement uncertainties in signal acquisition. The meter is tested according to DVGW and OIML and MID approved.
- Turbine gas meters: For custody transfer gas measurements and non-custody transfer measurements, these gas meters are used in a wide range of diameters. There are versions with mechanical and electronic counting heads. In the device, a paddle wheel/turbine measuring wheel is set in rotation by the gas flow. The number of revolutions of this wheel serves as the measured variable.

In the industrial sector and among utilities, it is important to determine the composition of natural gas in order to determine its calorific value. Process gas chromatographs are used here in custody transfer. Depending on the model, between 9 and 14 different components are measured. The devices have one or more measuring mechanisms installed. Hydrogen can be measured up to 20% in custody transfer. The devices can analyse up to four gas flows.

In these devices the measured volume flow is calculated into a standard volume. Taking the gas analysis values into account, the energy content is then calculated using specific formulas. The computers can apply a variety of different calculation formulas depending on the requirements.
