What applications are there for hydrogen today?
The main areas of application can be divided into four areas: power generation, the heat market, industry and the mobility sector. As a versatile energy carrier, it holds great potential for the path toward a climate-neutral energy supply.
What makes hydrogen so special?
Hydrogen is considered the ideal material for the energy transition: It is easy to produce and is available in almost infinite quantities. It can be stored and transported relatively easily. When hydrogen is finally converted into electricity in a fuel cell, no exhaust gases are emitted.
Why is hydrogen good for the environment?
What is its eco-balance? Green hydrogen is as environmentally friendly as the electricity from which it was produced. However, transporting it consumes a lot of energy, because hydrogen has to be cooled or compressed to a great extent. When it is used, however, no more pollutants are produced.
